  • A new residential facility will be open for Fall 2008. Village East Apartments will house 152 residents in 4-person apartments (single bedrooms). We will also be expanding our off-campus apartments and offering space in the Horseshoe Apartments on 6158, 6162, 6168, and 6170 Waterman.
  • Apartment Homesteading rules have changed. Only one person currently living in the apartment must return to keep the apartment.
  • Round 2 (North Side) -- All available spaces in The Village, House 6 and University Apartments will be included in this round and lottery priority will be based on housing seniority.
  • Round 3 (South 40) -- Rising sophomores will have priority in this round which will include all available South 40 spaces.
  • Upper-class students can choose to participate in a pilot program where housing assignments are not based on gender. The program will be offered in The Village and in Greenway Place Apartments.

Eligibility

Only students currently living in Residential Life managed housing are eligible to participate in the Housing Selection Process. Current commuters, incoming transfer students and students living in non-Residential Life managed housing are not eligible for a lottery number and are not permitted to participate.

Fraternity members must meet eligibility requirements before being approved to participate in the Housing Selection Process. This includes new members. The Greek Life Office will be responsible for determining whether Fraternity members are eligible to participate in the Residential Life Housing Selection Process. Visit the Greek Life website for more information.

Students who are currently abroad or on an official leave of absence should submit a Returning/Exchange Student Housing Application. This will be available in mid-January. The deadline to submit this form is February 15, 2008. This form is necessary in order to get a lottery number.

Medically Related Accommodations

Eligibility for medically related housing accommodations is determined by the Director of Student Health Services. You will need to submit documentation in the form of a letter from your health care provider. All special requests and their relevant medical documentation must be made by February 15, 2008.

Gender Neutral Pilot Program

Residential Life aims to treat students as adults and encourages them to make well-thought-out decisions. We are happy to offer upper-class students a housing option where the assignments are not based on gender. This pilot program will be offered in:

  • The Village (four-person, single bedroom, two bathroom suites)
  • Greenway Place Apartments (two and three person apartments with single bedrooms)

This option is available during Round 1 in the Apartment Homesteading & Village BLOC processes and during Round 2 for general assignments in these areas. In Round 2, assignments will be made in lottery average order (along with petitions that are single-sex). If you are not financially independent, we expect you to discuss your housing preference with those responsible for payment.

If your group participates in this option, you must completely fill the suite/apartment for the entire academic year. Groups with members who intend to participate in the Spring Study Abroad Program must be prepared to replace members after the fall semester. If there is an unexpected cancellation, you will be offered the opportunity to secure a replacement, but Residential Life reserves the right to assign another applicant to the space or to reassign the remaining residents to same-sex accommodations.

To apply:

  • Apartment Homesteading - please check appropriately on the petition
  • Village BLOC - a separate Gender Neutral petition will be available during
    the interview process
  • Round 2 - a petition will be available here when Round 2 petition creation starts

Online Roommate Finder

Residential Life will provide an Online Roommate Finder to help find potential roommates during the Housing Selection period. This online program allows you to post that you are looking for a roommate, or that you are in need of a roommate.

Information Sessions

Many Residential Colleges/areas will be holding Housing Selection Information Sessions for their residents--look for information from your RCD or RAs about these sessions.

Building Updates

Construction will begin in June on the new Umrath Residence Hall (current one will go down in May)
and on a new addition to the
Wohl Center.
